Book Wins the Skade Award

Highway to Heaven – A History of Perisher and the Ski Resorts Along the Kosciuszko Road” awarded “Most Outstanding Regional Ski History 2014” by the International Ski History Association known as the “Skade Award”.

International Ski History Association (ISHA) present their “Skade Award” for “an outstanding regional ski history or an outstanding work published in book form focused in part on ski history”.  The Skade Award for 2014 went the Perisher Historical Society for our book authored by Peter Southwell-Keely.  And so, Judy Thomson, Peter and Dianna Southwell-Keely, Philip and Pamela Woodman went to the annual conference of International Ski History Association (ISHA) held in Park City, Utah to be presented with the award.

This is a huge event with two or three hundred of delegates present at a variety of events, lunches and dinners over five days including an extraordinary number of skiing personalities from all over the world.

A copy of “Highway to Heaven” was presented to each Club and Commercial Lodge
The Perisher Historical Society presented each establishment in Charlotte Pass, Guthega, Perisher, Smiggin Holes and Diggers Creek with a copy of the book on the understanding that it would be made publicly available for the use of their guests.

Pictured is a work party of PHS members gathered at Ku-ring-gai Lodge preparing the books, complete with “Skade Award” sticker, for distribution each of the 133 clubs and commercial lodges.
