Wrenford Collection – Skitube Construction
Construction of the Skitube Railway commenced in October 1984, with tunnelling beginning in June 1985.
The 5.9 kilometre line opened from Bullocks Flat to Perisher on 26 July 1986, with the final leg to Blue Cow opening on 31 March 1988.
Barry Wrenford’s photographs provide a valuable documentary of the construction of this unique alpine railway.
They are part of a 10,000 image library of virtually a complete time capsule of the Snowies during the 1980’s and up into the 90’s. Almost all are pristine high resolution master transparencies that were taken using two Linhof cameras, one for 6x7cm and the other for 6x17cm format.
